Wireless FAQ I
want wireless, what do I do ?
Call 530-343-6777 or Email wireless@chiconet.com
to order service. We will need to prequalify your location
to see if wireless is available. A technician may need
to come out to your area if your home or business is on the
borderline of recieving wireless service to test signal strength.
If you are signing up for roaming service, you will not need
to be prequalified.
Do I need to pay an istallation
fee for roaming plans?
A onetime setup fee of 25.00 applies to new roaming accounts.
Although no cpe is installed the software needs to be installed
on your laptop or mobile device.
What operating systems
do you support?
Wireless broadband can be installed on any windows system released
later than 98SE, including WinXP and Macintosh. All new
accounts come with a troubleshooting and operating manual free
of charge.
What's involved in a residential
installation?
After your location has been prequalified a trained service
tech will come right to your home and install it for you. Installation
involves mounting a small antennae on your roof and running
a cable down to your computer of existing network.
I live in an apartment
complex, can I get service?
Yes. Although you may need to get authorization from your property
managment company. Call 343-6777 for details.
Where can I get service
with a roaming plan?
With your laptop or other wireless portable device you will
be able to get online anywhere you can recieve signal from one
of our repeaters, which cover a significant portion of Chico.
When will wireless
be available?
Wireless internet is available NOW!
Current coverage is about 75-85% of Chico. Call 343-6777 to
confirm your availablity and to check locations in other cities.
If you want or need a faster circuit than those listed above,
please contact sales.
Wireless advantages
If there is a problem with your circuit, we do not have to wait
for the phone company. Business dedicated point to point circuits
will have very high reliability, since the connection is line
of sight from our facility to yours. Even in residential wireless,
we do not have to wait for Pac Bell to fix anything, as that
is the case when customers have DSL issues.
Our goal
Our goal is to bring high-speed internet in areas that DSL or
other service is not available. While maintaining a personal
level of service with each customer.
The future?
According to our partner in this wireless venture Digital Path
networks, wireless should be available to nearly all of California
very soon.
What kind of connectivity do
you have?
A 9MB DS3 ( T3 ) line to uunet
(worldcom) for this product.
